What Seventh-day Adventists Believe

As a Christian church, Adventists are rooted in the beliefs described in the Bible. The name identifies a day of worship that has largely been forgotten and the belief in the soon coming of Jesus.

Central Adventist beliefs are that:

  • God's greatest desire is for you to see a clear picture of His character. When you see Him clearly, you will find His love irresistible.
  • The Bible is God's voice, speaking His love personally to you.
  • Jesus never changes in a universe that always does. He is Sustainer, Savior, Friend, God's Son, and God Himself.
  • God loves you and wants to give you the highest quality of life imaginable.
  • The heart of God is a place you can experience as home. He wants to spend time with you as a close friend, one on one.
  • Jesus gave His life to save you and me from what would be the end result of our disconnect from God. If we accept His free gift, we can be His close friend—forever!

Adventists do not believe the Bible teaches:

  • That bad or wicked people go to hell when they die, where they are burned and tormented forever. Click here and here to learn more.
  • That people go to heaven or hell as soon as they die. Click here and here to learn more.
  • That we can communicate in any way with those who have died. Click here and here to learn more.
  • That God changed His Ten Commandments to replace the holy day He created on the 7th day of creation, the one day He specifically asks us to remember. Click here and here to learn more.

From the beginning, a force of revolt (Satan) has worked to confuse and muddy our perception of God’s character. His strategy is to create counterfeits for many of the good things God created and laws He established to keep us safe and happy. Because of this, the world is full of conflicting beliefs—and our view of God’s loving character has been twisted. It is almost impossible to sort out truth without careful study of the Bible. The more clearly we understand the truths of God’s Word, the more completely we will understand the depth of His love.
