Lens Replacement Surgery

ince childhood, you may have had focusing problems that need corrective  eyewear. Lens replacement surgery is an

opportunity to change that.

WHAT IS LENS REPLACEMENT SURGERY?

Cataract surgery is the most common type of lens replacement surgery. But refractive lens exchange (RLE) is another. Both procedures can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and even presbyopia—the middle-aged loss of reading vision.

HOW DOES TREATMENT WORK?

Cataract surgery and RLE are essentially the same procedure. Except with RLE, the lens of the eye is not clouded by a cataract. In both cases, the eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens implant specially selected to match the eye’s focusing needs. Our surgeons perform tens of thousands of lens replacement procedures each year with excellent outcomes.

DOES INSURANCE COVER RLE?

The cost of RLE is not usually covered by insurance.

YOUR CHOICE OF VISION

People undergoing cataract surgery and RLE at Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute can choose to have premium vision or standard vision. With premium vision, our surgeons utilize advanced technology to provide the best possible sight—with less dependence on glasses.

I’VE BEEN WEARING GLASSES since I was three. Now I have clear vision for the first time in my life. No glasses to take off at the end of the day, no glasses to reach for the first thing in the morning. My life has been changed!

STANDARD VISION

  • A good option if you don’t mind wearing glasses to achieve your best vision at all distances.
  • A standard singe-focus lens implant is set to give natural vision at one distance—near or far. But glasses are needed for other distances.
  • This lens does not correct astigmatism
  • Ideal if you‘re willing to use corrective eyewear much of the time.
  • For cataract patients, the cost is usually covered by insurance.

PREMIUM VISION

  • For good candidates, advanced technology can help minimize or eliminate your need for glasses.
  • We offer several premium options to optimize your visual outcome. These may include bifocal, trifocal, multifocal and continuous-focus lens implants, astigmatism correction, high-tech imaging, and use of precision lasers.
  • Ideal if you prefer not to wear glasses for most activities.
  • For cataract patients, the cost of surgery with standard vision is usually covered by insurance, but the extra cost of premium vision services is not.
