In addition to participating in clinical studies of the excimer laser, he has made many innovations in cataract surgery and laser vision correction. Dr. Ford’s special interests include laser technology, computer programming, hiking, gardening and flying. He has a daughter and son—Laura and Marshall. A native of Seattle, Washington, Brian grew up enjoying the outdoor activities of the Northwest. His father, an ophthalmologist, helped establish the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. At university, Brian majored in cell biology and then pursued medicine. Earning his medical degree, Dr. Carey went on to complete an ophthalmology residency. In addition to cataract surgery, he was fortunate to perform a large number of refractive surgeries and learn valuable techniques from some of the profession’s pioneers. After practicing with his brother in Seattle and then briefly in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Carey returned to Seattle, where he expanded his surgical skills. Besides performing surgery, he enjoys serving as a team ophthalmologist for the Seattle Seahawks. Dr. Carey’s interests are tennis, golf, scuba diving and snow skiing. He and his wife Vicki, a residential realtor, have a daughter and twin sons—Barbara Ann, Thomas and Joseph. Graduating from college with a biochemistry major, Paul attended medical school. After earning his medical degree, Dr. Chung took an ophthalmology residency and then went on to complete subspecialty training in glaucoma. For 3 years, Dr. Chung served as chief of ophthalmology at the VA Hospital in Loma Linda, California. Then, he further honed his surgical skills at busy eye centers in Georgia and Tennessee. Dr. Chung likes to read, hike, play tennis and spend time with his family. He and his wife Iris, a family practice physician, have 4 sons and a daughter—Jared, Jason, Joelle, Joseph and Justin. Going back to school, he took a residency in ophthalmology and completed specialty training in cornea and external eye disease. For 4 years, Dr. Gruzensky taught ophthalmology residents the skills of eye surgery at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, one of the nation’s premier medical schools. For six years, he taught ophthalmology residents the skills of cataract, corneal and refractive surgery at The George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. Then he served as director of cornea service at the VA Medical Center in Portland Oregon and as associate professor of cornea service at Casey Eye Institute at Oregon Health and Science University. He also earned his pilot’s license and spent a year in India as a student missionary. After medical school and ophthalmology residency training, Dr. Seery went on to complete a fellowship in cornea and external eye disease. For the next four years, Dr. Seery practiced on the island of Guam, performing cataract surgery and treating a wide variety of eye problems. In addition to eye missions, Dr. Seery’s interests include long-distance cycling, snorkeling and scuba diving, hiking, flying, church activities, prison ministry, and playing violin. He and his wife Karen, who has a master’s degree in elementary education, have a daughter and son—Ashlyn and Bryan. Kind and approachable, Dr. Yoon has a cheerful and fun-loving personality. Passionate about helping people see, he enjoys the intricacies of eye surgery. Born in Glendale, California, Eden grew up nearby in San Gabriel. He loved playing basketball and dreamed of becoming a doctor. In college, Eden tutored biology and chemistry students, spent a year studying in Spain, and graduated with a major in Spanish. Before medical school, he mentored abused mothers and their children at a shelter in Peru. He also had the opportunity to observe eye surgery at Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute. Seeing how happy patients were with their new vision was a crucial factor in his decision to pursue ophthalmology specialty training. In his last year, Dr. Yoon was able to spend a month doing cataract surgery in Zambia, Africa with a veteran eye surgeon learning how to restore vision without modern instruments. Joining a private clinic in Vancouver, Washington, Dr. Yoon focused on comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery. He and his wife, Brinja, a dental hygienist, have a daughter and son—Tealyn and Tayte. Caring and committed, Dr. Yoon wants to help disadvantaged people in the world be able to see. “I feel like I have received so much, and volunteering is a way for me to give back.”
